Activity history

The trustees, in whom was vested the government of the institution, were supported by a committee of nine, known as the ordinary managers. The managers were elected annually from the trustees and were responsible for the ordinary administration of the affairs of the institution subject to the control of the trustees. The managers met once a month and held their first meeting on 26 March 1796. They presented reports of their proceedings at each of the four general meetings of the trustees and elected annually a president, and a treasurer and secretary to provide administrative support. They appointed from their number subcommittees to attend to property, apparatus, books, accounts and regulations of classes and fees. A committee was also appointed to manage the popular evening classes.
