Activity history

The college was governed by both the council and the governors. The council was the managing body but was answerable to the governors, who, as the supreme governing body, had the authority to alter or make new regulations. Administrative support for the council and governors was provided by the secretary's department.

The government of the college remained unchanged after the affiliation and partial incorporation with St. Andrews University in 1897 although the powers of the council and St Andrews University court were contradictory. Despite an investigation and recommendations for reorganisation, the governing bodies of the college remained the same until 1953 when the University of St. Andrews Act dissolved them and placed the government of the college in the hands of the court of St. Andrews, which was remodelled.
