School Board of Glasgow

The institution was established by the trust disposition and deed of settlement, dated 1847, of Allan Glen, a wright of Glasgow who died in 1850. By this deed were appointed trustees to manage the whole business of the institution including development of the legal framework.

In 1876, the trustees were incorporated under the Allan Glen's Institution Act, which gave them the power to make, vary and rescind byelaws, rules and regulations for the management of the school.

In 1887, in accordance with the scheme of the Royal Commission on Scottish Educational Endowments 1886, responsibility for the government of the institution including legal matters passed to the governing body of the newly created Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College.

In 1912, under the terms of the Allan Glen's School Order Confirmation Act, the management of the institution passed from the control of the Technical College to that of the School Board of Glasgow.
