Activity history

Students had the opportunity to be involved in various ways in the government of the College. Every few years, the College Committee of the General Assembly, renamed in 1930 the Committee on Education for the Ministry, made a special visitation of the College. In preparation for this, students could send the Committee details of anything they thought should come to its attention. The Committee was also authorised to meet with students at any time if it was thought desirable. Students could also make representations about College affairs to the Senate.

Students did not, however, have an official body to represent their interests until 1919 when a Students' Representative Council was instituted. Its objects were to be the recognised medium of communication between the students and the College authorities as well as to further the general interests of the students and promote academic intercourse within the College. It was renamed the Students' Committee in 1932, the Students' Council in 1933 and the Divinity Students' Council in 1939. After 1935, when the College united with the Faculty Divinity at Glasgow University, the Council represented all matriculated students in the Faculty of Divinity at Glasgow University.
