Activity history |
From the foundation of the College in 1857, student discipline was dealt with in the first instance by the professors and Principal, subject to the approval of the College Senate. More serious cases were referred to the College Committee of the General Assembly (renamed in 1930 the Committee on Education for the Ministry) which, in turn, could refer cases to the General Assembly itself. The General Assembly of 1888 declared that the Senate had the right to refuse to sustain the session of, in other words to expel, any student who failed to perform his work satisfactorily. Following the union of the College with the Faculty of Divinity at Glasgow University in 1935, the University was henceforth also involved in handling disciplinary cases.
