Activity history |
Before embarking on their studies, students had to enrol at the College and pay a matriculation fee. The Secretary (renamed Mistress in 1909) recorded the students' names and details in an enrolment book and the fees were paid to the College Treasurer. The Treasurer subsequently reported the amount of fees received to the College's Executive Council. Until 1892, the power to regulate the amount of the matriculation fee rested with the Executive Council. In 1892, the College became Glasgow University's Department for Women, and the women were henceforth admitted as matriculated students of the University. Each student was required at the beginning of each session to matriculate by enrolling her name in the University album before joining any class. However, the students did this in the Secretary's office at the College rather than in the University. The administration of matriculation and enrolment remained the responsibility of the Secretary, and from 1909 the Mistress, until 1935 when the separate teaching of women came to an end and the College building was sold. |
