History

The Management Group was originally formed in 1983 as the Planning and Resources Committee. It was renamed Management Group in 1996. The Committee had been established as the result of the Jarrat Committee report. The Management Group was renamed Senior Management Group in 2004.

Mandate

The Management Group was responsible for the co-ordination of the University's strategic planning. It advised the Principal, as chief executive officer of the University, on matters of policy, advised the Court and Senate on matters of strategic policy and implemented the policies of the Court and Senate. It conducted a regular review of inter-related academic, financial, personnel and estates and building matters.

Administrative structure

The Management Group sat outwith the University's formal committee structure. It comprised the Principal, Vice-Principles, Secretary of Court, Clerk of Senate and the Directors of Estates and Buildings, Finance, Human Resources and Information Services. The Academic Secretary also attended. The Principal, as the University's chief executive officer, spoke for the group at meetings of the Court. The Group met weekly.
