History

The Committee of Managers held its first meeting on 26 March 1796. It met once a month.

Mandate

The Managers were responsible for the ordinary administration of the affairs of the Institution subject to the control of the Trustees. They presented reports of their proceedings at each of the four general meetings of the Trustees. They made recommendations to the Trustees as to appointments of professors and lecturers.

Administrative structure

There were nine Managers, elected annually from the Trustees. They elected annually a President, and a Treasurer and Secretary to provide administrative support. They appointed from their number subcommittees to attend to property, apparatus, books, accounts and regulations of classes and fees.
