History

The Trustees were appointed under the terms of John Anderson's will, dated 7 May 1795. Under the 1877 Anderson's College (Glasgow) Act, they were made a body corporate, and had their powers and duties remodelled and defined.

Mandate

The Trustees were responsible for the whole management and administration of the College and were vested with the power to enact or ordain bye-laws, rules and regulations for the better governing and promoting the purposes of the College.

Administrative structure

There were eighty-one Trustees, divided into the following nine classes with nine members in each class: tradesmen, agriculturists, artists, manufacturers or merchants, mediciners, lawyers, divines, natural philosophers and kinsmen. The Trustees met at four general meetings each year.
