Following the creation of the new University, two new schools of study were created - the School of Arts and Social Studies included economic history, economics, English studies, geography, modern languages, politics, psychology and sociology; the School of Business and Administration began with accountancy, administration, industrial administration and law. Three schools were created to cover engineering: Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Naval Architecture; Civil and Mining Engineering and Applied Geology; and Electrical Engineering. Other schools that emerged were the School of Mathematics and Physics, the School of Chemical and Material Sciences, the School of Pharmacy and the School of Biological Sciences.
