Activity history

Under the terms of John Anderson's will, the management of the institution was vested in eighty-one trustees. A secretary was chosen each year from their number to provide administrative support and keep the minutes of their proceedings. The conduct of the trustees was monitored by nine visitors comprising the Lord Provost of Glasgow and other dignitaries of the city and the church.

Under the 1877 Anderson's College (Glasgow) Act, the college's trustees were made a body corporate, and had their powers and duties remodelled and defined.

In 1887, the institution was amalgamated with Allan Glen's Institution, the College of Science and Arts, Atkinson's Institution and the Young Chair of Technical Chemistry to form the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College. The trustees, together with the trustees of the other institutions, were responsible for the management of the new college until 26 May 1887. At this date a newly constituted board of governors assumed control.
