Activity history |
Students were assessed each week by an examination administered by the professor. Since at no stage in its history could the institution award degrees, there were no degree examinations to administer. However, students were eligible to sit the examinations of the government department of science and art. Examinations were also held for the award of bursaries. The secretary advertised the bursaries in local and chemistry related newspapers and passed on the applications to the trustees, together with a report on the circumstances of each candidate. The trustees, on occasion assisted by an outside examiner, prepared and marked the examination questions. The secretary had the questions printed and arranged with the professor the time of the examination. Successful candidates were reported in the trustees' minutes. A prize volume was given by the professor to the student who came first in the examination. |
