Activity history |
Responsibility for course administration originally fell to the Headmaster (renamed Director in 1909) and the teachers, subject to the approval of the Committee of Management (renamed Board of Governors in 1892). From around 1908, course administration came within the remit of the Staff Council, a body which comprised the Director, heads of departments and principal teachers and discussed all matters relating to students, including such matters as the revision of the timetable and the calendar and keeping attendance records. In 1925, responsibility for these matters fell to the Board of Studies and in 1973 to its successor, the Academic Council. The Academic Council appointed a General Purposes Committee whose remit included class administration, the school calendar and the school prospectus. From 1873, administrative support for course administration was provided by the newly created post of Secretary and Treasurer, whose duties included timetabling, keeping class lists and records of students' attendance and progress and providing references for students. Each year, he published a calendar or prospectus for prospective students, which contained class timetables for the coming session. In 1943, the newly created post of Registrar took over the provision of this administrative support. |
