Activity history |
Arrangements for lectures and classes, which were modelled on those of Glasgow University, were discussed and approved by the Executive Council of the College. In 1884, the Council appointed an Organisation Committee with the remit of recommending classes for the ensuing session. The Secretary, acting in accordance with the wishes of the Committee, undertook all the arrangements for the classes including contacting tutors, drawing up timetables and liaising with the University as to the location of classes. Programmes of classes for the ensuing session were published as were timetables for lectures and classes which appeared in the College calendars. Lists of the previous session's lectures and classes were published in the annual reports. The professors and lecturers kept lists of those attending each class and issued attendance certificates. Lists of all the students and the classes attended by them were compiled by the Secretary each year, who was also responsible for reporting numbers of students attending each class to the Executive Council. Reports by the professors on the attendance at each class were initially published in the calendar but this practice did not continue beyond the 1884/1885 session. In 1892, the College became Glasgow University's Department for Women. The Executive Council was dissolved in 1893 and the government of the College was transferred to the University Court and Senate. Course administration was therefore now carried out by the University. However, women were initially still taught in separate classes in the College and the College Secretary (renamed Mistress in 1909) retained an involvement in the organisation of classes. In 1935, the College buildings were sold and the whole administration passed to the University. |
