All student complaints were originally handled by the Headmaster (renamed Director in 1909) and the Committee of Management (renamed Board of Governors in 1892). From 1873, the Secretary and Treasurer provided administrative support for dealing with complaints. From around 1908, complaints about academic work, teaching and courses were handled by the Staff Council, a body which comprised the Director, heads of departments and principal teachers and discussed all matters relating to students. After 1925, the handling of such complaints fell to the newly created Board of Studies, and in 1973, to the Board's successor, the Academic Council. From 1943, on the creation of the post of Registrar, complaints about admissions were handled by the Registrar. In 2003, unresolved complaints about admissions could be referred to the Head of Academic and Student Services. Such complaints were considered on matters of procedure only and not the academic judgement of the admissions team. In 2003, complaints relating to equal opportunities were dealt with via course committees of the Academic Council and the School's Joint Consultative Committee.
