Activity history |
Until 1887, those wishing to attend the school sent letters of application to the trustees, who then selected and admitted the most eligible in accordance with the wishes of the founder of the school, namely the children of respectable parents of the industrious classes who were unable to give their children a suitable education. The Allan Glen's Institution Act of 1876 gave the trustees the power to prescribe the age at which boys could be admitted to the school and the standard of proficiency necessary to qualify a boy for admission. In 1887, responsibility for handling the admission of pupils passed, together with the government of the school, to the governing body of the Glasgow and West of Scotland Technical College. Finally, in 1912, it passed to the School Board of Glasgow. |
